The Shawi (a.k.a. Chayahuita) are an Indigenous people from Peruvian Amazonia.  Their population has been estimated at approximately 20,000 individuals.  Most Shawi live in some 180 "comunidades nativas", on the banks of the Cahuapanas, Cachiyacu, Paranapuras and Sillay rivers. There is also Shawi population along other tributaries of the Huallaga and also the Mara ñon river.

The Shawi and Shiwilu languages are the only (extant) members of the Kawapana family.
